What’s Your Why?

We asked our team what makes them choose bridge again and again…

Jabari Courts, 6th Grade Math Teacher

Bridge stood out to me because it is a full-service school. Most of the schools I've worked at and attended reduced students to a grade or statistic. Bridge made me feel as if they recognized each individual student as a person. When I researched the school and saw all of the things we offer to students such as fresh cooked food, a free garden, and SEL support staff. Bridge to me was a no brainer.

Katie Grinnell, 7th Grade Math Teacher

Bridge stood out to me because community is not just encouraged among students and staff separately but rather together which recognizes the integral relationship that every person in a school plays to the success of that environment. From K1 littles who smile and wave at those they pass in the hallways to the 8th graders who want to learn from their teacher's life experiences, the kids at this school embody what it means to be a family. The staff are lucky to work in a place so full of love and support and it only pushes you as an educator to give your best to the students.

Library Volunteers

We’ve loved being part of Bridge for 10+ years, and building a library that is relevant to student’s lives. It’s a treat to engage with our amazing students during their library visits and to see them leave content. Having a child exclaim, “Hi library lady!” when we walk by makes our day! Bridge is blessed with dedicated teachers and staff. Volunteering alongside them makes us feel part of a team where each member brings their special talents to their work.

Riva Yatt, 4th Grade Associate Teacher

One of the reasons that Bridge stood out to me was the opportunity for professional growth. I noticed that the staff and administration were so supportive and I have seen that they follow through on promises. Another reason is Bridge has an inspiring mission statement that motivates me to be a better person and teacher. I saw parallels in my teaching philosophy and the way Bridge supports their community.

Candyss Woodberry, First Grade Teacher

BBCS is amazing. The people are great and very supportive of one another in really meaningful work in the field of education.

Matt Owens, Upper Division Academic Tutor

I chose to work at Bridge Boston because it was an opportunity to serve and educate children who look and sound like me in my community, providing them tools that will help build their bright futures! I continue to work at Bridge because of our scholars. They are wonderful, giving affirmation and feeding encourage enables these young scholars to continue to grow and thrive!

Alicia Reverack, Academic Operations Manager

435 Warren Street was being constructed at the time I decided to retire from teaching. I can still picture myself driving by and being more and more curious about Bridge. I started learning more about the school and concluded that here was where I belonged. The thing that resonated with me the most was the mission and the JAGUAR values. Now, as I approach the end of my fifth year here at Bridge, I am able to convey my WHY with pride, and it all stems from the value of Joy. I genuinely love greeting our scholars, staff, and families each day. I have the chance to make a difference in how they start and conclude their day. “Bring Joy! Spread Joy!”

Keverne Glasgow, Food Services Director

The responsibility of supplying healthy meals brings me joy and fulfillment. It is a humbling experience serving at Bridge Boston.
