What are we celebrating?
Bridge is really focused on celebrating our students' academic growth. Although we use several different assessments, the one assessment that students (K2-8) take in both subjects (Reading & Math), and that we can consistently measure across grade levels throughout the years, is iReady. Now that students have completed their Middle of Year (MOY) assessments, we're looking to see who has achieved 50% or more of their Average Typical Growth. Average Typical Growth is calculated by iReady and is specific to each student's Beginning-of-Year level of performance-so basically based on their BOY scores, how much growth is typical for that student to make by the EOY.
Who are we celebrating?
If a student has made 50% of that growth by MOY, in either subject or both, it's time to celebrate. All students will join us in an awards ceremony to recognize the students' achievements. Those students who have achieved their growth will then participate in a "Growth Party" following the awards. Growth is important, so the goal is to get our staff and students talking about their goals and how to reach them. These celebrations will take place after each diagnostic moving forward, with the intention being to increase awareness of student-led goal setting. We want students to be able to speak to their own data and their progress towards their goals. Student ownership of their learning and achievements, always striving for academic excellence! Achievement doesn't have to mean meeting the benchmark or grade-level proficiency expectation, but everyone can grow and that's what we're looking for and celebrating.
Teachers share the data and goals with parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences, but parents can be encouraged to continuously ask their scholar about their learning and progress too :)
